What is Pepcid?
Pepcid (generic name: Famotidine) is an H2 blocker used to treat a variety of medical conditions. In fact, Pepcid is used to treat ulcers of the stomach and intestines. Plus, it treats other issues like gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), erosive esophagitis, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. This medication works by lowering stomach acid levels. Further, Pepcid relieves patients of symptoms like persistent coughing, heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and stomach pain. Finally, patients can take Famotidine without a prescription. However, if you use this drug to self-treat, make sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions on the package. This tells you when to contact your doctor or pharmacist.
How is Pepcid used?
In general, you should take Pepcid as directed by your doctor, whether that is with or without food and once or twice daily. For those taking it once a day, it is usually taken right before bed.
The amount and length of time that patients take Pepcid is determined based on their medical condition. Usually, children’s dosages are based on body weight. Make sure to take this medication as directed by your doctor to get the most benefit. Take it at the same time every day, and do not stop taking it without permission from your doctor. You may take this drug with other drugs as recommended by your doctor.
For those taking Pepcid to self-treat heartburn or acid indigestion, take 1 tablet with a full glass of water as needed.
