Our Flo
Vida-Flo is both a preventative and restorative treatment option for the dehydration effects of heat exhaustion.
The intravenous infusion of our 1000mL bag of just one Lactated Ringer is equivalent to drinking 2.5 gallons of water. Additionally, the LR includes the electrolytes sodium, calcium, lactate and potassium.
Our medically supervised rehydration therapy is the safest, most effective and efficient way to bounce back from heat exhaustion.
Treatment for Heat Exhaustion
What is Heat Exhaustion?
Heat exhaustion is a condition that results from excessive heat, causing trademark symptoms like excessive sweating and a fast pulse. There are two other syndromes that involve heat:
Heat Cramps
Heat cramps are the mildest heat-related syndrome, presenting symptoms, such as:
- Excessive sweating
- Thirst
- Fatigue
- Muscle cramps
This condition is commonly treated with:
- Drinking fluids and sports drinks (Powerade, Gatorade, etc.)
- Going to a cooler location (shaded or with A/C)
- Resting
Heat Stroke
Heat strokes are the most severe type of heat-related syndrome with symptoms like:
- Lack of sweating even with the heat
- Throbbing headache
- Nausea and vomiting
- Muscle cramps and weakness
- Hot, dry, and red skin
- Dizziness and lightheadedness
- Rapid pulse
- Hyperventilation
This condition is treated with:
- Cold or ice bath
- Cooling blankets or ice
- Cooling with evaporation (misting water onto your body while fanning warm air over you, like manual sweating)
- Muscle relaxant (like benzodiazepine) to reduce shivering
Symptoms
People with heat exhaustion show symptoms suddenly or after a few days. Here is a list of symptoms to look out for:
- Excessive sweating
- Lightheadedness
- Dizziness
- Fatigue
- Nausea
- Headache
- Weak, rapid pulse
- Cool, moist skin with goosebumps in the heat
- Muscle cramps
- Low blood pressure when standing up
Visit a Doctor
If you have symptoms of heat exhaustion:
- Stop what you are doing and rest
- Move to a cooler location
- Drink cool water or sports drink (ice-cold water could make you go into shock)
Visit a doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve within an hour. Seek immediate medical attention if you or someone:
- Loses consciousness
- Becomes confused or agitated
- Are unable to drink
- Has a temperature of 104 F or higher
Causes
The cause of heat exhaustion is the lack of regulation of your body’s internal temperature due to environmental heat. Circumstances that cause this include:
- Inability of body temperature regulation
- Dehydration
- Consuming alcohol
- Overdressing
Risk Factors
There is a higher risk for heat exhaustion with:
- Children younger than 4 years old
- Adults over 65 years old
- Certain drugs (beta blockers, diuretics, antihistamines, tranquilizers, antipsychotics, cocaine, and amphetamines)
- Obesity
- Drastic changes in temperature
- High temperatures
Everyone is susceptible to heat exhaustion, so looking out for symptoms and taking caution in excessive heat is vital, especially for people in the high-risk category.
