What is Gout?

Gout is a common form of arthritis that causes sudden, intense pains. This disease particularly affects the big toe but can also affect other joints.

People with gout experience sudden symptoms that usually happen at night, including:

  • Severe joint pain: Gout most commonly affects the big toe but also affects other joints like elbows, wrists, knees, fingers, and ankles. The most intense pain usually occurs within the first 4 to 12 hours after it begins.
  • Inflammation and redness Joints that gout affects become red, swollen, warm, and tender.
  • Chronic discomfort: Affected joints may experience discomfort for days to weeks after the most severe pain stops. Future attacks are usually more intense and last longer.
  • Limited range of motion: You may not be able to move your joints properly once you develop gout.

Understanding Gout

Unfortunately, gout is a painful disease that affects both men and women. Experts have provided us with a list of causes, risk factors, and complications so you can have a better understanding of this condition.

Gout is the result of urate crystals forming in your joints due to elevated levels of uric acid in your blood. Your body breaks down purines, natural substances in your body, to produce uric acid. Purines are found in red meats and organ meats (like liver) while seafood (like sardines, tuna, anchovies, etc.), alcoholic beverages and drinks sweetened with fructose increase uric acid levels.

Usually, when kidneys are functioning properly, they pass dissolved uric acids through them and into your urine. Sometimes your body can overproduce uric acid, or your kidneys could be functioning improperly, leading to blockages and severe pain and inflammation in the affected joints.

  • Diet: Diets with high contents of red meat, shellfish, and beverages sweetened with fructose cause elevated uric acid level. Drinking alcohol, particularly beer, puts you at higher risk of gout.
  • Weight: Being overweight causes your kidneys to work harder to excrete the increased amount of uric acid produced.
  • Chronic medical conditions: High blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and heart and kidney diseases increase your risk of gout.
  • Medications: Aspirin, anti-rejection drugs used after an organ transplant, and other medications used for hypertension, such as thiazide diuretics, beta blockers, etc. can cause elevated levels of uric acid.
  • Genetics: People with a family history of gout have a higher chance of developing gout.
  • Age and sex: Gout affects more men than women because of women’s lower uric levels; however, after menopause, women’s uric levels become closer to those of men. Men aged 30 to 50 and women going through menopause are more likely to develop gout.
  • Recent trauma or surgery: Occasionally, recent surgery or trauma and getting a vaccination could trigger a gout attack.
  • Recurrent Gout: Although some people only experience symptoms of gout once, many others experience symptoms multiple times a year. With medication, gout attacks subside. Without treatment, gout can erode and destroy the affected joint.
  • Advanced Gout: Gout can develop into a more serious condition that causes urate crystals to form under the skin called tophi. Tophi can form on your feet, hands, elbows, ankles, fingers, and Achilles tendons. Though tophi are commonly painless, they can still become tender and swollen during gout attacks.
  • Kidney Stones: Kidney stones are urate crystals that may form in the urinary tract of gout patients. Medication can reduce the risk of this condition.

We offer all new clients our introductory ReVIDAlizer Treatment for only $119, which includes the Core IV Hydration Fluid and Two Essential Boosts.

IV therapy works by using an intravenous (IV) fluid drip to deliver saline solution through a small catheter and tubing directly into the bloodstream. This saline solution may also include medications and vitamin supplements tailored to the individual patient.

During your therapy session, a medical professional will insert an IV line attached to a bag of saline solution. This bag is hung above the patient's head, using gravity to regulate the flow of fluids into the bloodstream. Compared to a syringe or other forced technique, gravity allows for a gradual introduction of fluids.

While the time frame of a single treatment varies from person to person, a session typically lasts 30 – 45 minutes. There are exceptions to this timeframe, such as with our NAD IV treatments, which generally take 1 to 2 hours per session.

IV drip therapy is highly effective in delivering nutrients, vitamins, and fluids directly to your bloodstream. Unlike oral supplements, this method bypasses the digestive system, allowing your body to absorb the maximum amount of nutrients without any loss during digestion. As a result, vitamins and nutrients are made immediately available to your cells, accelerating the benefits.
