The Neighborhood
Vida-Flo Nashville is on Demonbreun Street at the edge of Music Row, between downtown and Midtown. The Music Row roundabout, with its towering bronze “Musica” sculpture, is a short walk away, and Vanderbilt, Belmont, Centennial Park and the Parthenon are all within a few minutes. Demonbreun Hill’s bars and restaurants make this one of the busiest weekend streets in the city.
The street is named for Timothy Demonbreun (say it “duh-MUN-bree-un”), a French-Canadian fur trader often called Nashville’s “first citizen.” He came to the Cumberland River in the 1700s, when this was a salt lick full of buffalo and deer, and lived for a time in a riverside cave that is now on the National Register of Historic Places. A bronze statue of him by Alan LeQuire stands at Fort Nashborough downtown. LeQuire also sculpted Musica, so the same artist’s work bookends our street.
Music Row is where much of Nashville’s recorded music has been made since the 1950s, in studios like RCA Studio B, a few blocks away. Today the neighborhood mixes songwriters, students, healthcare workers from the nearby medical centers, and visitors in town for a Titans, Predators, Nashville SC or Vanderbilt game.
