The Neighborhood
Vida-Flo Decatur is in the West Ponce shops at the corner of West Ponce de Leon Avenue and Northern Avenue, in the downtown Decatur business district. Our next-door neighbor is Fleet Feet, so it is common to see runners stop in before a long training block or after a race. Downtown Decatur’s square, restaurants and the Decatur MARTA station are a short walk east.
Decatur is older than Atlanta. The city was founded in 1823, and its square is still anchored by the historic DeKalb County Courthouse. Agnes Scott College has been part of the town since 1889, and Emory University is a few minutes up the road, so our chairs see students, faculty, healthcare workers and young families alike.
Decatur is a festival town, from the Decatur Book Festival to beer, arts and wine events on the square, and a music town too, home to the listening rooms where many Georgia songwriters got their start. Big weekends here, and game days for the Braves, Hawks, Falcons and Atlanta United across town, are when a quick hydration visit fits in best.
This October: Oakhurst Porchfest turns porches across a square mile of the Oakhurst neighborhood, just south of downtown Decatur, into stages on Saturday, October 10, from noon to 7 p.m. No ticket is needed.
