Is dehydration linked to allergies?

For those of us who suffer from allergies, as if we weren’t suffering enough we could also be dehydrated without even knowing.

Spring is here! The flowers are blooming, the birds and bees are starting to get busy pollinating. The change in seasons starts to stir the dormant irritants like pollen and dander. With the change in seasons, pollen and dander are at their peak. With those irritants in the air, our bodies react with sneezing, runny noses, and itchy eyes.

One of body’s first defenses against dander and pollen is the expel liquid. Starting with a sneeze, which can muster up to 95 mph of strength and expel up to 2 ounces of water in an attempt to clear our air passages. That’s why it’s also important to cover your mouth with each sneeze, as to not spray unwanted liquid matter on surfaces or people. Runny noses are also liquid and hydration leaking from the body. The body tries to combat the dry air and irritants with lubrication in the nose. Blowing your nose can lead up to 6 ounces of fluid expelled. Lastly, when those itchy eyes start to puff up, fluid builds up underneath and behind the eyes. In some of the worst cases, eyes can get so puffy and filled with fluid that they are sealed. All of our allergic reactions expel water and dehydrate the body! That’s hydration that our immune system needs to operate properly and heal from those harmful irritants.

How to Improve Eczema Naturally and Effectively!

Atopic dermatitis (eczema) is the skin condition that causes red, dry, and itchy skin.

Affecting both adults and children, the condition is commonly seen in the creases of elbows, behind knee caps and even on the neck and face. If you suffer from eczema then you understand the condition is uncomfortable, unsightly, and can feel uncontrollable at times. While there is no known cure, but there are natural remedies for eczema. Read on to learn more about how to improve eczema with Vida Flo’s hydration therapy.

1. Hydrate

Our bodies are made up of over 70% water, so health is synonymous with hydration. Most people don’t get the daily recommended consumption of water. With so many beverage options at our disposal, choosing water can seem like the least inspiring option. Here at Vida-Flo, we understand the importance of water and we know that drinking it isn’t the only way to get its various benefits. We recommend hydration therapy as an alternative method for those who struggle with their daily intake of water.

The Vida-Flo hydration therapy method is applied through an IV and uses 1000ML bags that consists of normal saline (0.9% sodium chloride), electrolytes of potassium, calcium, minerals, and lactate. These ingredients are all natural, but aren’t usually found in bottled water which is often stripped of the vital nutrients your body needs to maintain adequate hydration levels. Hydration therapy will give your skin the internal moisture it needs which can help to decrease the symptoms of eczema.

2.  Moisturize

If are wondering how to improve eczema, then you need to understand the role of topical moisture. It is critical for you to apply a layer of moisturizer to your skin twice daily. We recommend a natural moisturizer like unrefined shea butter which is rich in vitamin A and vitamin E. This will also help to improve the appearance of dark marks and scars. Shea butter may seem like a heavy, creamy, and thick moisturizer but it is quickly absorbed by the skin, so you won’t look or feel greasy long after you apply it.

3.  Soften your water

Our skin is our body’s largest organ and when we shower we absorb the water directly into our skin. Unfortunately, the water that comes from our shower isn’t the best for our skin especially when it is considered to be hard water. Hard water is contains higher levels of calcium and magnesium. Exposure to hard water can significantly enhance the symptoms of eczema. By placing a water softener over your shower head, you can shield yourself from hard water deposits and reduce the absorption of high levels of calcium and magnesium in your skin.

4.  Use natural soaps and detergents

If you suffer from eczema, you can greatly benefit from natural soaps and detergents. Traditional soaps contain ingredients like sodium lauryl, laureth sulfate, dioxane, parabens, propylene glycol, diethanolamine, and fragrances. These chemicals are not only hard to pronounce, but they also can trigger eczema flare ups. Opt for a more natural alternative like castile soap which is oil based and natural and can be used to wash your skin and clothes.

5.  Eliminate food allergens

Often times eczema is a result of food allergens. If you have never been tested for food allergies you may be consuming the foods that are causing your discomfort. A simple food allergy test can help you identify the foods that are not compatible with your body, so you can begin to make informed food decisions.

There are many natural remedies for eczema, but here at Vida-Flow, we encourage you to experience the wonders of hydration therapy. Schedule your first appointment today by clicking here.

Vida-Flo Speaks: The Benefits of Glutathione

The benefits of glutathione may be the best thing you’ve never heard of!

Here at Vida-Flo, we recently introduced a new standard in hydration therapy which uses glutathione, an antioxidant naturally present in fruits and vegetables. Our glutathione package aids in preventing damage to important skin cells caused by free radicals and this service has several other benefits as well. Read on to learn more about the various benefits of glutathione hydration therapy.

Reduces Dark Marks and Evens Skin Tones

Glutathione is a natural skin brightener and is used commonly in cosmetics to lighten and reduce the appearance of dark marks and acne scars. The resulting effect is a bright and even skin tone for all shades of skin.

If you have tried dozens of products that promise to rid your skin of blemishes, scars, and dark marks only to be disappointed with the results, you will benefit greatly from introducing Vida-Flo’s hydration therapy with glutathione to your system. While there are several ways to use glutathione, we have found that when combined with hydration therapy, results are seen much faster, so you can enjoy healthy radiant skin sooner.

Anti- Aging Benefits

Our bodies need a balanced level of antioxidants to maintain a healthy and youthful appearance. When skin is exposed to UV rays, free radicals are created which causes oxidative stress, degradation of collagen, and an over-production of melanin (responsible for your tan). Over time, exposure to the sun rays can result in premature aging of the skin.

At Vida-Flo, we use glutathione combined with hydration therapy to combat the free radicals that cause oxidative stress and reverse the damage caused by harmful sun rays. This means your skin will look and feel softer and younger.

Reduced Inflammation and Redness

Inflammation is the body’s way of initiating healing responses. However, inflammation that is unregulated can result in excessive free radical activity and tissue destruction. Many of us experience inflammation so regularly that we don’t even recognize it as such, but most discomfort, itching, or redness in our skin is an indicator of inflammation.

Kick the discomfort by fighting inflammation from within! Our hydration therapy with glutathione will help your body to regulate its healing processes and reduce the itchy redness associated with inflammation.

Vida-Flo’s hydration therapy with glutathione has these benefits and many more. Get started today with your customized hydration treatment at your local Vida-Flo location.

Tips for Fast Hangover Relief and Recovery!

Live fast, but honestly, there’s no reason to die young!

Nights on the town with friends make the best memories, but the feeling of exhaustion, dehydration, and fatigue will have you searching for a fast hangover cure the next day. Here are a few tips to help you recover faster and get you back to feeling like yourself again.

Understanding the cause

When you consume alcohol, your body’s natural response is to produce more urine to release the foreign substance from your body. As you urinate more often, you release some of the alcohol from your system, but you also lose vital hydration. Since most of us are not adequately hydrated to begin, our hangovers can feel even more intense – yep, that’s right. Signs of dehydration include:

Increased thirst.
Dry mouth.
Exhaustion
Headache.
Dizziness.

The symptoms of dehydration are identical to the symptoms of a hangover, so when you are dehydrated and hungover, it is natural for you to feel bad, like really bad.

Take the right steps to feel better faster

So how can you feel better sooner? Your friends might tell you to drink as many bottles of water as you can, but unfortunately this won’t replenish the vital fluids your body needs quickly enough. There’s a better option to get hydrated faster and it’s called hydration therapy!

Hydration therapy is a revolutionary treatment developed by VidaFlo to quickly and effectively rehydrate your body. The treatment is used by professional athletes, as well as everyday people, to provide overall health and wellness, boost energy, prevent illnesses, and relieve hangovers.

VidaFlo’s hydration therapy is applied through an IV and uses 1000ML bags that consist of normal saline (0.9% sodium chloride), which replaces vital salt lost after a night of drinking. It also contains electrolytes of potassium, calcium, and lactate. These electrolytes can be difficult for the body to absorb through simply drinking water.

Hydration therapy only takes about 45 minutes and you can expect to feel 100% better after your first treatment!

If you are planning a night out on the town, beat the hangover in advance by scheduling your hydration therapy session today. We also offer same day appointments at many of our locations, especially for the times that you need fast hangover relief. Click here to find a location nearest to you.

4 TIPS TO STAY HYDRATED DURING YOUR CHATTANOOGA HIKE

If you live in Chattanooga and love taking long, scenic hikes to Lookout Mountain or along Bluff Trail, it’s important to stay hydrated during your outdoor adventures. Tennessee offers a variety of outdoor excursions for those who love the rush and challenge of physical activity, however, its hot and humid summer months can leave you dehydrated if you don’t take the proper precautions. Before you head out on your next afternoon trek, consider the hydration tips below.

Sip Water, Don’t Gulp

One of the best ways to ward off dehydration is to constantly sip water throughout your hike. When you make a point to take small, frequent sips during your travels, you’re actually helping to distribute water throughout your body, encouraging proper hydration. While you may feel a roaring thirst coming on from time to time, try to avoid guzzling water during your trip.

Plan Ahead

You may be familiar with the saying, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. When it comes to preparing for your hike, it’s important to ensure you take the necessary steps to avoid dehydration. Depending on the amount of time you plan on hiking, along with the difficulty of the trail, it’s critical to make sure you bring enough water for your tip. If you want to truly prepare for the physical activity ahead, consider stopping by Vida-Flo in Chattanooga for one of our IV hydration therapy treatments. We’ve helped hundreds of avid hikers and sports aficionados prepare for their hikes and sporting events through hydration therapy and we would love the opportunity to show you what we can do.

Limit Caffeinated Drinks

If you love your morning cup of coffee or find yourself drinking soda to get over the afternoon hump, consider limiting the amount of caffeinated beverages you consume before your big hike. Since caffeine is known to increase fluid loss in the body, drinking that cup of joe just may increase your risk of dehydration throughout the day.

Carry Some Electrolytes

When it comes to hiking in hot weather, it’s always a good idea to carry some electrolytes with you in the case you find yourself dehydrated. When you sweat throughout the day, your body not only loses fluids, it loses electrolytes as well. When you make a point to bring a replenishing sports drink or snack with electrolytes on your trek, you can help replenish your body with the fuel it needs to keep going. If you don’t love the idea of lugging around another water bottle on your trip, consider stopping by Vida-Flo for a high quality hydration treatment. Our unique hydration restoration fluids are among the best electrolyte replenishment solutions available, so you can restore your body with the vitamins and minerals it needs to function at its optimal efficiency.

Warning Signs Of Dehydration

The amount of water your body needs during physical activity can vary depending on the season and climate. The Tennessee heat can take a toll on your body, so it’s important to understand the warning signs of dehydration before heading out on your afternoon hike. If you start to feel thirsty on your trek, your body is trying to tell you that you are somewhat dehydrated already. Some of the most common symptoms of dehydration include:

Severe Thirst and Dry Mouth

If you start to notice your lips are dry or cracked, or you have difficulty swallowing, you’re likely already dehydrated.

Headaches

Many headaches are caused by dehydration and this is especially true for children and teenagers. If you feel a headache coming on don’t opt for aspirin, instead drink more water!

Fatigue

If you feel tired or sluggish during your hike, it may be because you haven’t had enough to drink.

Dark Yellow Urine

One of the best indicators of dehydration is the color of your urine. If your urine isn’t clear or slightly yellow, you most likely haven’t consumed enough fluids to stay hydrated.

If you start to notice any of the above symptoms during your hike, you could be suffering from dehydration. Stop by Vida-Flo in Chattanooga for a hydration therapy treatment to restore your body back to its fully functioning, hydrated state. Browse our treatments online or give us a call today!

10 TIPS TO PREPARE FOR YOUR CROSSFIT COMPETITION

Over the past few years, CrossFit has become extremely popular among workout gurus and personal trainers alike. With its constantly varied, high-intensity movements, CrossFit is a challenging training program that builds strength and conditioning outside of commercial gyms. The CrossFit games season spans from the end of February through July, with athletes jumping on these opportunities to show off their impressive strength and endurance. At Vida-Flo in Chattanooga, we’ve helped hundreds of athletes prepare and recover from CrossFit competitions through our state-of-the-art IV treatments. Whether you’re ramping up for your first CrossFit competition or your tenth, there are a variety of things you can do to gain a competitive advantage.

1. Have Fun

Perhaps the most important tip in this article — make sure to have fun! During your first five to ten CrossFit competitions, try not to worry too much about your performance or how you’re going to look on the competition floor. If you’re attending your first CrossFit competition, make a mental note that your participation will simply be a learning experience in and of itself. Soak up the sights and sounds of other, more seasoned, athletes and make note of their successes in performance.

2. Wake Up Early & Eat A Good Breakfast

Most CrossFit competitions start early in the morning, so it’s important to ensure you have the necessary fuel to power through the day long competition. We recommend waking up at least three hours before your competition, so you have ample time to eat a hearty breakfast and wake up your body. If you wind up waking up an hour before the competition, you run the risk of becoming fatigued more quickly and your ability to recover between sets will be greatly reduced. If you’re looking for an added boost in energy and physical performance, visit our IV hydration clinic in Chattanooga. We offer a variety of IV treatments specifically designed to restore fluids and vitamins in your body!

3. Be Safe

Everyone wants to be able to put in 150% on competition day, even at the expense of their own body. While you may feel inclined to bump up your weights the day of the CrossFit competition, it’s important to pick weights and reps that you know your body can handle. If your clean personal record (PR) is 150lbs, don’t up your weights to 200lb the day of the competition because you’re feeling overly confident. This can easily lead to injury, so you should always opt for a weight you’re comfortable with.

4. Recover Safely

Recovering safely after a workout is just as important as training. While many CrossFit athletes rely on proper nutrition, deep tissue work and ice baths to reset their engines, many forget the most important part of recovery — sleep! Sleep is a critical component to your CrossFit competition success not only for alertness, but so your body can properly promote tissue repair and muscle growth. If you’re looking to add a little more clarity to your mental and physical physique, stop by Vida-Flo in Chattanooga for one of our hydration therapy treatments. Our Alert: Oxygen IV therapy treatment uses pure oxygen to heighten concentration and alertness while stabilizing the nervous system. If you want to increase your aerobic stamina before your big CrossFit competition, this is an easy way to do so!

5. Embrace Pre-Competition Butterflies

If you get antsy and nervous thinking about your upcoming CrossFit competition, embrace the butterflies! Competition is stressful, and as humans we biologically need to prepare ourselves to handle stress. The human stress response begins in the brain and eventually recruits the adrenals to release cortisol and adrenaline throughout your body. This is actually your body’s way of mobilizing energy and providing your muscles with the sugar, fats and proteins needed to perform your best! So when you feel those little butterflies start to take flight in your stomach the day of the competition, take a deep breath and let them fly.

6. Start Training Early

Training for a CrossFit competition can be extremely demanding and you should start training approximately twelve to sixteen weeks before the actual competition. In the beginning stages of your training, we recommend taking a good, honest look at where your strengths and weaknesses lie. If you struggle with self-evaluation, ask a workout buddy or coach to assess your strength and conditioning levels. This will give you pertinent information about where you should be focusing your training and where you can back off.

7. Train With People Who Are Better Than You

Whether you’re just beginning your CrossFit journey or you’ve been CrossFitting for years, training with athletes who are stronger and more skilled than you will push you to be as good as them. While normal CrossFit classes are typically held in a group setting, you likely won’t be challenged by the novice Crossfitter in your group. If you’re serious about training for your CrossFit competition, take a look at your class and start training with people you know will push you to your peak physical limits.

8. Taper Your Workout

As you get closer and closer to the date of your CrossFit competition, you’ll need to slowly start tapering your training regimen to prepare for the big day. As you slowly start to lower the intensity and load of your workout, your nervous system will adapt and start to recover. Tapering your workout also gives you the opportunity to lower your weight and decrease your reps so you can put more focus on your technique. Most CrossFit competitors will taper their workout anywhere from five days out to three weeks out depending on the duration of the competition.

9. Eat Normal Meals The Day Before

While you may be tempted to fill your body with large amounts of carbohydrates before the CrossFit competition, don’t! Unlike marathons, there’s no need to carb-load the day before your big competition. Stuffing yourself with carbs will only flood your bloodstream with sugar, which can cause your insulin to spike and leave you feeling bloated and heavy due to water retention. Instead of forcing your body to store that excess sugar as fat, eat a normal diet before your Crossfit competition.

10. Consider IV Hydration Therapy

If you’re serious about preparing your body for a CrossFit competition, stop by Vida-Flo in Chattanooga for IV hydration therapy. We’ve helped hundreds of CrossFitters prepare for competitions so they can perform at their absolute peak. When you visit our hydration therapy treatment center, our accredited medical professionals will recommend the best hydration treatment solution for you and your fitness goals.
